bp Trinidad and Tobago's Cypre Development Begins Gas Production
bpTT launches gas production from Cypre, advancing bp's global expansion and Trinidad and Tobago's energy goals.

bp Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has officially commenced gas production from its Cypre development, marking a significant step in bp’s global expansion plan. Cypre is one of bp's portfolio of 10 cornerstone projects that are scheduled to start up between 2025 and 2027, supporting the company's growth strategy for increasing its upstream business. Combined, these projects will produce a peak net of up to 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).

A Strategic Subsea Project

Cypre marks bpTT’s third subsea venture, featuring seven wells connected to the existing Juniper platform. Upon becoming operational in its entirety, the project is predicted to generate some 45,000 boed, or a little over 250 million standard cubic feet of natural gas every day. Phase one, with four wells, was completed as of the end of 2024, with the second phase due to be started later in 2025.

William Lin, bp’s Executive Vice President of Gas and Low Carbon Energy, said, “Our focus is on consistent execution and safe delivery of major projects like Cypre. The second of 10 major projects across our global portfolio that we expect to start up by 2027, Cypre is also the first of a series of projects we will be bringing online in Trinidad to deliver gas to the nation and add value for bp”

Supporting Trinidad and Tobago’s Energy Goals

David Campbell, president of bpTT, said, “Cypre is another key milestone in bpTT's strategy to maximize production from our shallow water acreage using existing infrastructure. The project not only reinforces our commitment to maintaining production but also plays a crucial role in satisfying our existing gas supply commitments"

He added, "Cypre represents a significant investment in the country's energy sector. We are proud to be part of this journey and look forward to continuing our collaboration with Government and other stakeholders to unlock Trinidad and Tobago's energy future"

Part of bp’s Broader Upstream Investments

Cypre follows the successful launch of the second development phase at Egypt’s Raven field earlier this year, making it bp’s second major start-up in 2025. The project aligns with bp’s targeted returns from its upstream investments and fits well within its current capital expenditure framework.
