Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Eco Wave Power Global AB (Eco Wave Power) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the goal of establishing renewable power projects on the basis of wave energy in the country. BPCL and Eco Wave Power signed the MoU at India Energy Week 2025, propelling India's shift towards clean energy.

Bolstering India's Renewables Shift

The MoU was exchanged by Mr. Chandrasekhar N, Head of Research and Development, BPCL, and Ms. Inna Braverman, Founder & CEO, Eco Wave Power, in the presence of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon'ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, and Shri G. Krishnakumar, Chairman & Managing Director, BPCL. The agreement aligns with MNRE's focus on ocean energy, which could generate up to 40,000 MW along India's coastline.

BPCL's Climate Change Commitment

BPCL, which is among the largest oil and gas companies in India, is adding renewable energy to its portfolio to become net-zero by 2040. BPCL has partnered with Eco Wave Power to integrate wave energy into India’s energy mix and drive clean innovation.

The collaboration starts with a feasibility study and a pilot 100–300 kW wave energy installation at BPCL's Mumbai terminal. This is paving the way for future large-scale commercial deployments.

BPCL will handle approvals and permits, while Eco Wave Power will provide technology and lead research for optimal efficiency. Additionally, the collaboration will bring Eco Wave Power's state-of-the-art technology to India, a fast-developing renewable energy market.
