Catalyze launches first Bronx battery storage project, boosting New York’s energy goals

Catalyze, a fully integrated developer and Independent Power Producer (IPP) of distributed renewable energy assets, announced the launch of its first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in the Bronx, New York.

This project stands out as one of the first megawatt-scale BESS installations to be completed and fully approved under New York City's revised battery storage permitting regulations.

The project will utilize incentives from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and participate in the Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) stack arrangement to supply electricity to the grid.

Now operational, it is currently providing power to help manage increased seasonal demand.

The installation includes 4 Tesla MegaPacks, totaling 4.29 MW / 8.58 MWh. Remarkably, the transition from construction to operation was completed in just 171 working days.

Jared Haines, CEO of Catalyze, said, “This project represents Catalyze’s commitment to innovation, further expanding our expertise in BESS technology.”

He added, “New York will require a host of renewable energy solutions to meet its ambitious climate goals, and we are proud to continue working with local officials to deploy renewable energy projects across the state.”

The project aligns with New York’s goal of installing six GW of energy storage by 2030 and its aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by over 80% by 2050.

With this project, Catalyze aims to increase its presence in New York. Recently, the company had acquired $100 million in financing from NY Green Bank and announced two projects in Lancaster and Amherst over the past year.
