Chaberton Energy, a company focused on developing renewable energy products, announced the commencement of construction on a new 2.9-megawatt defined conditions (Mwdc) community solar project located in Fulton, Howard County, Maryland.

The Lime Kiln solar project, developed by Chaberton, is part of the Maryland Community Solar program, designed to benefit residents across all income levels who are unable to install solar panels on their properties.

Once completed, the project is expected to generate over 4.6 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power approximately 400 homes.

It aims to provide affordable electricity to residents of all incomes who want access to clean energy, and its impact is expected to be equivalent to removing nearly 800 gas-powered vehicles from the road.

Dr. Caakvin B. Ball, Howard County Executive said, “The Lime Kiln solar project will bring additional clean energy to our community and offer Howard County residents greater access to lower electric bills."

He added, “The project also helps to advance our Howard County Climate Forward plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2045. We are delighted to have this new solar array in our community as we continue to lead on energy independence."

This is one of several projects Chaberton and Pivot have collaborated on in Howard County. They have also made charitable contributions to local organisations, including Brightminds, the Community Ecology Institute, and POWER52.

The Lime Kiln project is expected to be operational in the first half of 2025.
