Clean Energy Fuels Corp opened a newly expanded renewable natural gas (RNG) fueling station in Carson, California. The station will serve public and private fleets located at Figueroa Street, including Districts’ vehicles, local buses, waste haulers, and medium to heavy-duty trucks.

RNG Produced from Wastewater and Organic Waste

The station dispenses RNG from wastewater and organic waste processed at the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts’ A.K. Warren Water Resource Facility. Clean Energy supplies the remaining RNG fuel 100% through utility pipelines. It will manage and maintain the station for the next 10 years.

This expanded station supports the Districts' commitment to converting waste into resources. It also helps transition their fleet to cleaner, low-carbon fuels. The station expects to sell one million gallons of gasoline annually as more vehicles adopt ultraclean RNG.

Increasing Access to RNG for Fleets

Chad Lindholm, Senior Vice President of Sales at Clean Energy said, “This fueling station expansion comes at a pivotal time as demand for RNG continues to grow and fleets seek convenient access for fueling."

He added, "By increasing new locations for fueling with RNG, we help fleets in the region cut emissions, improve air quality in the areas they operate, all while offering a proven, alternative fuel.”

Mark Revilla, Head of the Districts' Solid Waste Management Department, praised the expansion. He highlighted their long-standing commitment to using biogas to power vehicles and generate energy. Revilla also strongly supported clean fuel vehicle use with this upgraded facility.

Part of a Broader Food Waste Recycling Program

The Districts received a grant from CalRecycle to help offset part of the construction costs. This expansion is part of the Districts’ Food Waste Recycling Program, which protects the environment while producing beneficial products for the community.
