COP29 Green Zone Hosts Panel on Youth and Digital Climate Solutions  

On November 16, the COP29 Green Zone hosted a panel discussion titled “Empowering Youth for a Digital Climate Revolution.” Organised by the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company and Cisco, the session focused on the transformative role of young people in driving digital climate innovation.

The panel featured prominent speakers, including Kęstutis Kupšys, a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC); Leyla Hasanova, COP29 Youth Climate Champion; and Mary de Wysocki, Cisco's Chief Sustainability Officer.

Fidan Javadova, a cleantech entrepreneur, and Doreen Michael, a conservationist and WAFF Youth Delegate, also joined the discussion.

Digital Technologies for Climate Action

Panelists highlighted how digital technologies are revolutionizing climate action. From AI-powered solutions to innovative apps, the discussion explored how youth utilise digital tools to advocate for sustainability, monitor environmental changes, and scale climate initiatives.

These advancements showcase young people's vital contributions as innovators and changemakers in the fight against climate change.

Spotlight on the Green Zone Activities  

In addition, the Green Zone hosted various activities, discussing decarbonisation progress, corporate sustainability roles, and the climate finance gap.

The discussions also highlighted the role of corporations in sustainability and their impact on global climate efforts.

Other discussions focused on green fintech’s potential to close the climate finance gap and achieving financial inclusion through digital solutions. This reinforced the importance of leveraging technology in advancing climate goals.

Meanwhile, the Extreme Hangout Zone provided a vibrant space for children and youth, offering dance, yoga, and creative workshops designed to inspire the next generation of climate leaders.
