Delhi–Dehradun Expressway to Feature Solar Panels & Parking Spaces

As reported by Urban Acres and other news sources, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to install solar panels on the various elevated sections of the expressway. The planning is done as a part of the green initiative by the Indian Government, certain parking spaces as well as other facilities will also be developed between Akshardham and Old Yamuna Bridge which is also known as (Lohe-ka-Pul).

Solar Panel Installation

The aim of the initiative is to help attain Net Zero emission by 2070. Secondly, as solar energy is said to be a renewable one, it will help in reducing emissions as well. Generation of clean energy is one of the aims of the initiative, which would further reduce the carbon footprint which can certainly be generated by the expressway operations.

Development of Parking Facilities

The project also comprises the creation of different parking spaces in the regions such as Gandhi Nagar-Kailash Nagar, which are the hubs of textile markets. The project also includes the creation of parking spaces along with the service road. One of the goals is to reduce emissions as well as on-road congestion with better options for parking for commuters and people who are the daily users of those spaces.

Collaboration and Planning

Road Transport Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra had meetings with top NHAI officials, the Delhi government, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The meeting was held to finalize the installation of solar panels and create parking lots along the expressway. The tie-up helps in a reflection of a commitment to sustainable infrastructure and enhanced city mobility.
