DKSH has entered into a carbon removal purchase agreement with Klimate, a trusted provider of high-quality, verifiable carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solutions. This partnership demonstrates DKSH’s proactive commitment to mitigating climate change while progressing toward its net-zero targets. The agreement covers two innovative removal technologies, direct air capture and artisanal biochar production.

Direct Air Capture in Kenya

The first project uses direct air capture, a durable technology that extracts carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere and stores it permanently in rock formations. Located in Kenya, the facility leverages the country’s abundant renewable energy resources, including geothermal and hydropower, making the process low-carbon and sustainacble.

Biochar Production in Rural Thailand

The second initiative takes place in rural areas of Thailand, where farmers convert agricultural waste into biochar, a carbon-rich material that sequesters carbon for years when buried or added to soil. This project not only removes CO₂ but also generates sustainable income, reduces harmful open-field burning, and improves local air quality, thus empowering marginalized communities socially and economically.

Erik Wihlborg, CCO of Klimate, said, “Klimate is proud to be DKSH’s trusted partner in securing high-quality carbon removal. This agreement aligns with DKSH’s sustainability objectives, with a strategy that includes off-take agreements and supports the long-term development of the carbon dioxide removal market. DKSH is demonstrating a proactive stance to take climate action at a critical time to reach global net zero.”

These projects complement DKSH’s broader emissions reduction goals. The company is targeting a 65% reduction in direct emissions by 2025 and 70% by 2027, compared to a 2020 baseline.

This effort includes operational improvements such as optimizing transport logistics, expanding the use of electric and hybrid vehicles, and installing energy-efficient technologies across facilities.
