DOE Invests in MetOx to Boost US Power Grid and Clean Energy Initiatives

MetOx International, Inc. (MetOx), a US-based firm specialising in High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) wire production, announced its selection to negotiate $80 million in funding from the US Department of Energy (DOE).

The funding will support the establishment of a cutting-edge manufacturing facility in the southeastern United States.

Project Arch, set to break ground in 2025, will be the nation's first large-scale HTS wire production facility.

This initiative aims to significantly boost domestic production capacity, strengthening critical infrastructure for the clean energy transition.

"We are thrilled to receive this support from the Department of Energy, which allows us to bring cutting-edge manufacturing and over 200 high-tech job opportunities to the southeastern United States," said Bud Vos, CEO of MetOx.

He added, "Project Arch represents a transformative milestone for our company and establishes the US as a true leader in HTS technology. This project will have an immediate and tangible impact on the local economy and the energy sector, powering new technologies that rely on the unmatched power-carrying capacity of superconductors. We are driving a more resilient, efficient, and sustainable energy future through Project Arch—for the US and the world."

Project Arch is designed to accelerate the growth of the US power grid, facilitate the rapid adoption of renewable energy, expand electric vehicle charging networks, support hyper-scale AI data centres, and enhance large-scale manufacturing operations.

With this strategic investment, MetOx will play an essential role in creating a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape.

Superconductors offer a transformative opportunity for the US to take the lead in the global energy transition, leveraging revolutionary technology already deployed worldwide.

Project Arch will be vital in developing a future-ready power grid, advancing zero-carbon energy generation, and bolstering domestic manufacturing of essential technologies.

With the DOE's backing, this initiative represents a significant milestone toward achieving these goals while revitalizing the local economy by creating new jobs in a community that previously housed a coal power plant.

Project Arch symbolizes the US commitment to sustainable innovation, paving the way for cleaner energy, improved infrastructure, and a robust manufacturing sector.

By investing in advanced HTS wire production, MetOx is enhancing its capabilities and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future for the energy industry.
