Milkywire Backs 40 New Carbon Removal Projects in 2025

Milkywire has announced the latest round of funding for its Climate Transformation Fund (CTF), which supports carbon dioxide removal (CDR) suppliers working towards global net-zero emissions.
This new round increases the number of supported CDR suppliers to 40, positioning Milkywire as a leader in catalyzing the carbon removal sector. The fund’s growth has been substantial, with only Shopify and Stripe having purchased from a higher number of CDR suppliers, according to CDR.fyi data.
Supporting Carbon Removal Technologies
The companies selected for 2025 span multiple CDR methods, each with high-quality removal pathways that show significant potential. The list includes Arbon, Backwater, BlueShift Carbon, Carbonsate, Flux, InPlanet, and others.
The rigorous selection process included an open call for proposals, where 280 CDR suppliers applied. From these, a subset of applicants submitted detailed applications, which were then reviewed by an advisory group to make the final selection.
Milkywire aims to provide early-stage buyers who prioritize sustainability, innovation, and co-benefits in carbon removal solutions. Such buyers play a critical role in ensuring promising CDR ideas receive the necessary funding to validate and scale, preventing high-potential ventures from failing prematurely due to a lack of market interest or funding.
Innovative and Diverse CDR Solutions
Among the selected suppliers, many are employing cutting-edge technologies in CDR. For instance, Kairos Carbon, based in the UK, is using a novel supercritical water oxidation process to convert organic waste into CO₂ suitable for geological storage.
Other projects include Planboo/Carboneers’ biochar production in Ghana, Releaf Earth’s biochar from Nigeria, and BlueShift Carbon’s membrane-free electrochemical direct ocean removal in the US. These projects use a variety of techniques, including biomass storage, biochar, enhanced weathering, and direct air capture (DAC), all of which provide scalable solutions for long-term carbon sequestration.

The Role of Early-Stage Carbon Removal Buyers
Milkywire’s support of CDR suppliers is vital to the development of the sector. As companies and governments around the world strive to meet net-zero targets, the demand for durable and scalable carbon removal solutions is growing.
Milkywire’s efforts to create a stable and reliable market for these early-stage projects are crucial in driving the long-term viability of carbon removal as a solution to climate change. By focusing on long-term growth and knowledge-building, Milkywire ensures that emerging CDR technologies can be tested, improved, and scaled.
Alongside supporting CDR, Milkywire is also focused on promoting other climate solutions such as emission reductions and nature restoration.
The company’s 2025 selection process for these types of projects is ongoing. Milkywire has received backing from major corporations such as Klarna, Spotify, Bolt, and BioGaia, many of which have implemented internal carbon fees to fund climate action initiatives.
