rPlus Energies and Idaho Power Launch Pleasant Valley Solar 2 to Expand Renewable Energy

rPlus Energies, a renewable energy developer, signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Idaho Power for its new project, the 125-megawatt (MW) Pleasant Valley Solar 2 facility.

Located in Ada County, this solar project is currently under construction and follows the 200 MW Pleasant Valley Solar 1. The Pleasant Valley Solar initiative will provide renewable energy, allowing Meta to power its Kuna data center with clean energy.

Urvi Parekh, Meta’s Global Head of Clean and Renewable Energy said, “We’re excited to expand our work with Idaho Power and rPlus Energies to add new renewable energy to the Idaho grid with Pleasant Valley Solar 2.”

Moreover, she added, “Efforts like these are important as we continue to support our operations with 100% clean and renewable energy.”

Supporting Clean Energy Goals Through Local Collaboration

Idaho Power will develop Pleasant Valley Solar 2 through its "Clean Energy Your Way – Construction Program," aiming to help businesses achieve their sustainability objectives.

Matrix Renewables primarily owns the Pleasant Valley Solar 1 project, which will begin commercial operations in early 2025. The second phase, Pleasant Valley Solar 2, builds on the first project, enhancing Idaho's renewable energy efforts significantly.

rPlus Energies President and CEO, Luigi Resta, emphasized the strength of the partnership, noting that “strong partnerships make all stages of development and construction smoother, and we certainly have that with these two.”

Boosting Local Economy and Education

Construction for Pleasant Valley Solar 2 will start in late 2024, creating approximately 200 jobs and boosting local economic development.

The project’s partners raised $123,000 in scholarships for local students attending Boise State University and the College of Western Idaho. This support will continue with the Pleasant Valley Solar 2 project.
