SECL Aims for Net-Zero Status by 2030 with Bold Green Energy Push

One of Coal India's subsidiaries, Southeastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) is planning to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030, as stated by ANI. The move aligns well with the country's plan to attain net zero by 2070 and tries to balance the national energy demands with environmental stewardship.
700 MW Solar Target and other projects
Harish Duhan, the managing director and Chairman of SECL emphasized on the point that company aims to generate 700 MW of solar energy by 2030. The capacity will help the company to automatically reduce the company’s carbon footprint and meet the energy needs sustainably.
Duhan stated “Along with direct production of coal, the company is heading towards gasification of coal. Different projects are coming here, and the company will work on the direction of coal gasification”
It was also stated that developing a green ammonia plant is the main aim. The plant will be powered by renewable energies and aligns well with the idea of having a national push for cleaner industrial fuels.

Cleaner Mining and Logistics
SECL is said to deploy specific, environmentally friendly mining equipment, which would help reduce the environmental impact. The firm is reported to have reduced its diesel usage and shifted to coal-handling plans, resulting in a decrease in truck dependence.
Land Reuse and Solar Expansion
A 20MW solar plant is commissioned by the firm already and post-mining land is expected to be used for additional solar projects. The Area General Manager for Bhatgaon confirmed that the proposals are in place to install solar units over reclaimed land from underground mines. SECL is also expected to be conducting different afforestation programs to ensure compliance with closure norms about sustainability.
