Suniva Partners with Imperial Star Solar to Boost Production

Suniva Inc., a Georgia-based solar cell manufacturer, has formed a strategic partnership with Imperial Star Solar. This collaboration aims to produce crystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules that meet the US domestic content requirements. The companies have signed a multi-year sourcing agreement, which will see Imperial Star incorporate Suniva’s high-efficiency PV cells into their modules.

Expected Market Launch in 2024

The partners anticipate that the first batch of their US-made crystalline solar modules will hit the market in the first half of 2024. According to Suniva’s statement, these modules will be among the few in the market made with domestically manufactured PV cells. This marks a significant step toward meeting the rising demand for locally produced solar products in the US.

Scaling Manufacturing to Meet Demand

Both companies are committed to scaling their production capacities to meet the growing need for US-made crystalline PV modules. The partnership aims to rapidly increase the output of cell and module manufacturing to align with the demand for high-performance, locally sourced solar products.

Strengthening US Solar Manufacturing

This collaboration is part of a broader effort to strengthen the US solar manufacturing industry. The agreement supports the growing trend of using domestic materials for solar technologies. It also benefits from government incentives that encourage clean energy production in the US.

Recent Partnership

Earlier this year, Suniva also partnered with Heliene Inc., a solar module maker based in Canada. This collaboration, under a three-year sourcing contract, focuses on producing US domestic content-eligible PV modules. Heliene recently secured $54 million to expand its US manufacturing capabilities, with plans for a new 550-MW production line in Rogers, Minnesota.

Suniva’s Growing Role in the Solar Industry

Through these partnerships, Suniva is establishing itself as a key player in the US solar industry. By partnering with domestic manufacturers like Imperial Star and Heliene, Suniva is supporting the growth of a self-sufficient US solar sector.
