UAE Champions Collaboration and Climate Action at COP29 Summit in Azerbaijan

Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, represented the UAE at numerous significant events during the COP29 climate summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan. She emphasized the importance of collaboration in accelerating climate action.

Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE's commitment to global climate resilience in agriculture and water ahead of COP30 in Brazil.

During the High-Level Plenary Event titled “Delivering on Climate Action Through Agriculture and Food Systems Transformation,” Dr. Al Dahak provided opening remarks.

The UAE highlighted its commitment to leveraging agriculture and food systems to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

She encouraged countries to boost cooperation, highlighting COP28's progress and the ability of food systems to address climate challenges. “We are already reaping the rewards of collaboration, but there is scope for so much more,” she stated

Dr. Al Dahak along with COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and other global leaders, participated in a UN Human Settlements Programme event discussing the vital role of urban areas in advancing climate objectives.

The event highlighted updates on CHAMP, a COP28 initiative focusing on urbanisation and multilevel climate action for cities globally.

The session, titled “Baku to Belem and Beyond: COP Presidencies Bringing Cities, Urbanization, and Multilevel Climate Action to the Heart of the Climate Agenda,” provided updates on the CHAMP initiative, launched at COP28, which has received support from 74 countries.

Launch of AIM for Scale’s Innovation Blueprint for Farmers

Dr. Al Dahak also launched the AIM for Scale event, aimed at improving weather services for farmers worldwide. At this event, she unveiled AIM for Scale’s inaugural Innovation Package: A Blueprint for Collective Action to Enhance Access to High-Quality, Farmer-Centric Weather Forecasts in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

At a High-Level Special Event on Adverse Impacts of Climate Change on the Decline of Water Basins, Dr. Al Dahak addressed the need to bridge national and global climate security concerning water issues. She announced the UAE’s commitment to co-sponsoring the UN Water Conference in 2026, in collaboration with Senegal.

Engaging Youth for Renewable Energy Leadership

Additionally, Dr. Al Dahak participated in the IRENA Youth Circle event, discussing future leadership in renewable energy with young attendees.

The event, organized by IRENA and the Global Renewables Alliance, engaged youth in discussing essential competencies for energy transitions.

Dr. Al Dahak stressed collaboration between education and the government to meet the renewable energy industry's training needs.
