Nuada and Missouri Lime Company (MLC) announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that has been used to kick off an innovative initiative at the flagship Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, facility of MLC.
This collaboration seeks to achieve net-zero lime production, a transformative step for an industry with inherent carbon emissions from limestone calcination. The initiative will use Nuada’s MOF-based VPSA system, reducing CO₂ emissions by 95% for more efficient carbon capture.
Revolutionary Carbon Capture Technology
Nuada’s carbon capture system uses Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) to efficiently capture CO₂ with minimal energy consumption. Unlike conventional methods that rely on energy-intensive heat processes, Nuada’s VPSA technology uses pressure to separate CO₂ from flue gases. This innovation reduces operational costs and resolves several issues that have cumulatively derailed carbon capture in carbon-intensive industries.
Dr. Jose Casaban, co-CEO of Nuada, shared that their breakthrough in carbon capture technology establishes a new standard for energy efficiency. He emphasized that this advancement paves the way for transformative decarbonization in challenging sectors like lime manufacturing. He added that by partnering with MLC, they are working towards setting the new gold standard in emissions reductions and sustainability within the lime industry while moving toward the next generation of carbon capture technology.
MLC, known for high-purity lime products in construction, water treatment, and agriculture, prioritizes sustainability in all its operations. The company is integrating Nuada’s carbon capture system to reduce emissions, energy use, and waste, boosting its environmental efforts.
Fiona Woody, MLC’s Director of Sustainability and ESG said, “Our collaboration with Nuada reflects MLC’s dedication to exploring advanced technologies that reduce our carbon footprint while maintaining the high standards of purity and quality our customers expect. The smaller footprint and significantly lower energy consumption of Nuada’s technology make it highly attractive to us.”
