Dutch startup SeaO2, specializing in innovative carbon (CO₂) removal technology from seawater, has raised over €2 million in new funding. The company aims to accelerate its Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) technology, which efficiently extracts CO₂ from seawater.
This technology not only removes CO₂ but also returns carbon-free water to the ocean, boosting its ability to absorb more CO₂ from the atmosphere.

Investment to Fuel Growth and Expansion
The recent investment round was supported by prominent investors such as DOEN Participaties, NEW-TTT fund, and Future Tech Ventures. Angel investors Eduard Talman and Siddharth Kambe also contributed.
The funding will enable SeaO2 to move from prototype to pilot plant. It will also strengthen the company’s team and implement a comprehensive Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) system.
SeaO2 plans to launch the pilot plant in the summer of 2025. The plant will have an annual capacity of 250 tons of CO₂, marking a key milestone for the company’s growth. This funding will help SeaO2 reach its ambitious goal of removing one megaton of CO₂ by 2030 and a gigaton by 2045.
