Aker Solutions, in a consortium with Siemens Energy, has reached an important achievement. The company has received the full notice from RWE to proceed for the Norfolk Vanguard West and East offshore wind farms.
The two projects are part of the first phase of RWE’s Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone. Once the zone is completed, it will be capable of producing enough renewable electricity to support over 4 million households. This RWE project also comprises the Norfolk Boreas developments.
The project is being carried out by a consortium of Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy. The collaboration will witness Aker Solutions taking up engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) offshore platforms. On the other hand, Siemens Energy will be responsible for the onshore station and the high voltage equipment in the offshore substations.

Progress and Timelines
Before offshore installation, the platforms will be towed to Aker Solutions’ Stord yard for final preparations, including transfer from transportation vessels to heavy lift vessels.
The execution of the project has already started. Engineering and procurement activities are ongoing for both the platform topsides and substructures. The fabrication of the Norfolk Vanguard West platform started in April at Drydocks World. The Norfolk Vanguard East platform’s fabrication is slated to begin in 2025. Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy plan to deliver and install both platforms in 2027 and 2028.
Aker Solutions’ Role
Aker Solutions has been involved in the projects under a limited notice to proceed, announced in November 2023. The full notice to proceed is a significant milestone for Aker Solutions and highlights their commitment to global energy transition.
“We are proud to be a key partner in this important energy project, which represents a significant source of renewable energy and a major step in Europe’s energy transformation,” said Sturla Magnus, Executive Vice President for Aker Solutions’ New Build segment.
The project aligns with the company’s broader strategy of expanding its activities in renewable energy and energy transition projects. This project presents an opportunity to the company to solidify its position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
The contract follows a balanced risk-reward profile based on long-term collaboration principles. This will ensure the efficient and safe delivery of the project.
Aker Solutions will book the award as a major order intake in Q1 2025. This intake will be recorded in the Renewables and Field Development segment and represents the remaining contract value for the two projects.
