Plenitude, and Infrastrutture S.p.A., through its joint venture Hergo Renewables, has completed the development of a new 37 MW agri-voltaic farm in Montalto di Castro within the Viterbo municipality in Lazio. The plant has come into production and will supply more than 70 GWh of power yearly.
This production is enough to supply over 22,000 homes with energy in Italy. This initiative is a milestone addition to the renewable energy capacity of Plenitude, which is already in excess of 1GW in installed capacity in Italy. The agri-voltaic farm by Plenitude and Infrastrutture is also the first of several solar initiatives lined up for Hergo Renewables, spread over both Italy and Spain.
Hergo Renewables’ Commitment to Renewable Growth
Pier Francesco Rimbotti, CEO of Hergo Renewables, stated that the new initiative would generate renewable and clean energy for over 22,000 Italian households. He highlighted that the project marks the beginning of their collaboration with the CNR at the National Biodiversity Future Centre. Rimbotti also mentioned that, as part of this initiative, they would work with the CNR and the University of Tuscia to study nature-based solutions for building plants that are more integrated into the surrounding environment.

Sustainable Energy and Biodiversity Collaboration
Hergo Renewables partnered with Italy’s National Biodiversity Future Centre (NBFC), led by the National Research Council (CNR), in order to provide the highest levels of environmental safeguards for the project. The NBFC receives funding from NextGenerationEU and works to protect and preserve biodiversity in Italy and the wider Mediterranean region.
Supported by around 2,000 scientists and 48 institutions, including leading universities and the Ministry of University and Research, the center works to conserve, monitor, and restore biodiversity.
