Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, a global investment manager specialising in energy transition infrastructure, announced an expansion of its partnership with Origin Energy.
The partnership expansion entails contracts that have been finalized for Stage 2 of the ‘Supernode’ battery storage project, which includes a 250MW/4hr Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
This contract marks a doubling in MWh capacity compared to the recently announced Stage 1 BESS project.
Origin Energy has increased its commitment to the Supernode project, securing exclusivity for the entire capacity of Stage 2 through a long-term offtake agreement with Quinbrook.
The Supernode site owned by Quinbrook is situated on the only land adjacent to the South Pine central node that is not prone to flooding.

This advantageous location helps reduce marginal loss factors and curtailment risks, providing competitive benefits for the operations of the Supernode Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).
Brian Restall, Managing Director and Regional Leader, Australia of Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, said, “We are thrilled to launch Supernode’s second stage so quickly, enabled by securing another long-term offtake commitment from Origin, Australia’s largest electricity retailer.”
He added, “This is recognized by many in the industry as Queensland’s best site for a big battery, and we are pleased to be partnering with Origin in delivering several innovations in how we are integrating the key elements of this important storage project.”
