SolarBank Corporation announced its plans to develop a 7 MW DC ground-mount solar power project in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
The Stauffer Project follows a 13.8 MW DC project announced last week that is contributing to a broader effort to establish 24.8 MW of community solar power in the state.
The project is one of the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, offering residents, particularly renters and homeowners without suitable rooftops, access to clean energy without needing to install personal solar panels.
Community solar projects offer individuals the chance to subscribe to a shared solar energy source, which can help them reduce their electricity bills and minimize their carbon footprints.

The project is crucial for advancing the state’s clean energy initiatives following the passage of House Bill 1842 in March 2024.
If approved by the Senate, it could enable the widespread development of community solar initiatives, benefiting residents of all income levels.
Dr Richard Lu, the CEO of SolarBank, said, “Community solar projects enable the benefits of renewable energy to proliferate throughout communities in North America.”
He added, “We are excited for the next steps in developing the Stauffer project, which would be a significant milestone in SolarBank’s community solar portfolio, in addition to being a part of Pennsylvania’s historic move toward a cleaner future.”

SolarBank has already secured a lease for the Stauffer Project site and is progressing through the necessary steps, including permitting, interconnection, and financing.
The project’s future as a community solar initiative depends on the Pennsylvania State Senate’s final approval of House Bill 1842.
Once operational, the Stauffer Project will supply clean energy directly to the local electricity grid, allowing homeowners and renters to earn credits on their utility bills from the power generated.
SolarBank’s strategic focus on community solar projects is aligned with its goal of providing clean and affordable energy to thousands of homes
