TotalEnergies make final investment decision on 100 MW battery storage in North Rhine-Westphalia
TotalEnergies announced that it has made the final investment decision for a 100-megawatt/200-megawatt-hour battery storage project in Dahlem, North Rhine Westphalia.
This marks the initial project approved by TotalEnergies from Kyon Energy’s pipeline, which is the primary developer of battery storage systems in Germany.
TotalEnergies acquired Kyon Energy, Germany’s leading battery storage system developer, in February 2024.
The project involves a total investment of over €75 million and will receive the latest generation of electricity storage technology from Saft, which is TotalEnergies’ battery affiliate.
The project will begin commercial operations in the second half of 2026. Quadra Energy, a startup acquired by TotalEnergies in 2023, will market the flexibility provided by the project’s batteries.

Stéphane Michel, President, Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said, “This investment decision reflects the acceleration of our integrated development in the Germany electricity market, the largest in Europe. For the battery system design, we will leverage synergies between our electricity teams: Saft will supply the batteries, Kyon Energy will manage development, and Quadra Energy will market this new capacity.”
He added, “All our recent investments in Germany demonstrate our strong commitment to contribute to the decarbonization of the country’s electricity and industry.”
Since 2023 and 2024, TotalEnergies has secured two significant offshore leases in Germany for constructing wind farms with a combined capacity of 4.5 GW, capable of supplying green electricity to approximately 4.5 million households.
