At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) played a central role.
The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to global climate action and sustainable development through high-level addresses, panel discussions, and partnerships.
The Sustainable Trade Africa 2024 event featured a keynote address by MOCCAE Undersecretary Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi.
Stressing the urgency of adopting climate-resilient strategies, he highlighted the UAE’s proactive initiatives to integrate sustainability into its national agenda.
Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi said “Our recent US$30 million partnership with the Republic of Ghana, is designed to bolster nature-based community development and climate solutions.”
He added, “From fostering public-private partnerships and cross-border collaborations to building robust trade systems grounded in best practices and forward-looking policies, the opportunities are vast”.

Additionally, Undersecretary Al Nuaimi participated in the Global Methane Pledge Ministerial, uniting global leaders to address methane emissions.
He highlighted the GMP’s role in reducing methane across sectors and emphasised the UAE’s commitment to tackling this potent greenhouse gas.
During COP29, Al Nuaimi visited country pavilions, engaging with representatives to explore new projects and innovations in climate mitigation.

Also present at COP29, Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Green Development and Climate Change at MOCCAE, delivered opening remarks at the “Next Steps for Effective Carbon Pricing” fireside chat.
She highlighted the potential of carbon pricing mechanisms to drive decarbonisation and spur innovation.
Dr. Alanoud underlined the necessity of assessing the viability of carbon pricing plans and their potential to revolutionize sectors by promoting sustainable practices and technology adoption.
Representing Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Dr. Alanoud also addressed the Second High-Level Ministerial Dialogue on Culture-Based Climate Action.
She underscored the interconnectedness of climate change and cultural preservation, describing the climate crisis as a cultural emergency.
The UAE showcased a comprehensive climate strategy that includes sustainable trade, methane reduction, carbon pricing, and the integration of cultural considerations into solutions.
