Addressing Climate Challenges and Infrastructure Gaps
India faces several challenges, such as floods, droughts, and cyclones. The country needs developments to resist these impacts and keep these risks at bay. However, addressing the difficulties is challenging for the initiatives due to a significant funding shortage in the financial markets.
The public sector cannot cover the $1 trillion climate financing shortage that the country currently faces. The ADB loan to India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL) will help bridge this gap by providing long-term capital. This funds critical infrastructure projects in connectivity, energy transition, education, and healthcare sectors.
This loan, supported by a sovereign guarantee will help IIFCL attract private sector participation acting as an anchor government investor. The partnership will guarantee a consoritum of lenders which will ensure a varied and long lasting finance approach for important infrastructure projects.

Building Capacity for Green Growth
The project will enhance IIFCl’s capacity to integrate green practices into its infrastructure projects. IIFCL will create a sustainability unit, framework, and scoring method to assess the sustainability of the projects it funds. These measures will ensure that later projects align with the environmental standards, contributing to India’s long-term sustainable growth.
