Veolia North America (VNA), a utility company, hosted a ceremony at its hazardous waste treatment center in Gum Springs, Arkansas, highlighting its efforts to make the US facility sustainable.
The event underscored VNA’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and workforce development at the Gum Springs plant.
Additionally, VNA announced plans to open a new facility for high-temperature thermal treatment of hazardous waste in 2025.
This investment focuses on protecting natural resources and supporting decarbonisation strategies for carbon-intensive industries.

Fred Van Heems, the President and CEO of VNA, said, “Together, these initiatives demonstrate Veolia’s vision for creating a brighter future for the hundreds of communities in the US and Canada where we provide essential environmental services in waste, water and energy,”
He added, “Veolia’s global GreenUp strategy for growth hinges on our commitment to providing innovative solutions for environmental challenges, and we are backing that commitment up through the work and vision we are carrying out at Gum Springs.”

A 5-megawatt solar panel installation for clean electricity, a forest management program encompassing over 1,000 acres with reforestation, and planting 100,000 trees were just a few of the sustainability features on display at the celebration.
An approach for capturing heat to generate electricity using a 7-megawatt steam turbine was also highlighted.
The event also showcased modern tools for monitoring biodiversity and wildlife around the facility, including one developed in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France.
