The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has declared a $65 million loan to Turkish energy company Polat Enerji to finance a pioneering hybrid renewable energy project in Türkiye. The 77-megawatt (MW) hybrid facility will have wind and solar power generation combined with battery storage.
Additionally, the project will source a loan from EBRD with up to $5 million from the Clean Technology Fund, summing to approximately $70 million.
First-Ever Battery Storage Initiative in Türkiye
The hybrid project, next to Polat Enerji’s Geycek wind farm, marks Türkiye’s first integration of battery storage with renewable energy. The development will add 30.8 MW of new wind capacity, combined with a 46.6 MW solar plant and 10 MWh storage.
This is the first initiative that will add to Turkey’s renewable capacity and also reduce intermittency through combining generation with energy storage solutions.
Polat Enerji: Pioneer in Renewal Energy Sector in Türkiye
Polat Enerji is one of the large companies in the Renewable sector in Turkey, possessing 654 MW of a cumulative installed capacity mainly from Wind sources. Moreover, the company currently generates around 2 GWh of energy annually through six operational power plants. As a top renewable energy investor, Polat Enerji will help drive Türkiye’s climate goals, including its 2053 net-zero target.
