The European Investment Bank (EIB) Group has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Findomestic Banca, aimed at empowering Italian families to invest in energy-efficient solutions and alternative energy production for their homes. EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti and Findomestic CEO Marco Tarantola introduced a synthetic securitisation to offer affordable green loans for sustainable living.
Supporting Energy Efficiency with Lower Interest Rates
Under this agreement, Findomestic will offer reduced-interest loans to households for purchasing and installing energy-efficient equipment and solar energy systems. This initiative supports the EIB Group’s green finance efforts, promoting a sustainable future and boosting partnership with BNP Paribas.

Innovative Securitisation Structure
The agreement involves a synthetic securitisation transaction on a portfolio of retail performing loans worth €855 million, originated by Findomestic. The EIF, part of the EIB Group, will provide a €94 million guarantee on the portfolio, supported by EIB. This setup allows Findomestic to free up capital, making €250 million available for new green loans to support energy projects.
Strengthening EIB-BNP Paribas Collaboration
This initiative is the fourth major collaboration in 2024 between the EIB Group and the BNP Paribas Group in Italy. Earlier in the year, the two institutions allocated €400 million to support businesses, including a 25% green component. This agreement deepens the partnership by supporting household energy transitions, marking a key step in advancing Europe’s sustainability goals.
EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti said, “A first in Italy, the EIB Group is investing directly in lending to Italian households, with the aim of reducing the costs of financing energy-efficiency projects and producing solar energy for domestic use.”
She added, “This new initiative is a model that we hope to be able to replicate further in other parts of Italy, helping to promote the energy transition of families and households and strengthening the link between the EIB, Europe and people in the country.”
By offering accessible green financing, the EIB Group and Findomestic aim to inspire households to contribute to Italy’s ecological transition. This innovative partnership paves the way for future collaborations, advancing the EIB’s goal of connecting finance with environmental sustainability.
