Esso Australia Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia Pty Ltd and operator of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture, announced the completion of its Kipper Compression Project, ensuring the continued supply of natural gas to the domestic market.
The Gippsland Basin Joint Venture is a 50-50 partnership between Esso Australia Resources Pty Ltd and Woodside Energy Pty Ltd.
The Kipper Compression Project involved installing compression facilities on the West Tuna platform to maintain production from the Kipper field, which is experiencing reduced reservoir pressure as it depletes.

The completion of the project is a significant milestone for Esso Australia’s efforts to sustain natural gas output.
Simon Younger, ExxonMobil Australia Chair said, “The successful completion of the Kipper Compression Project enables the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture to maintain production of critical natural gas supplies from the Kipper field, an integral part of our production system.”
He added, “Accessing new gas supplies or maintaining gas production is not simply a matter of flicking a switch; our project and operations teams put in more than one million hours to ensure its safe completion and on schedule.”

Esso and its joint venture partners have invested significantly in the Bass Strait region, contributing to Australia’s energy security for over six decades.
