JetBlue and World Fuel Services announce first regular supply of blended SAF at JFK
JetBlue airline and World Fuel Services announced a new commercial agreement to bring the first regular supply of Blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), provided by Valero, to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) as early as the fourth quarter of 2024.
As per the initial 12-month agreement, JetBlue will receive at least 1,000,000 gallons of neat, sustainable aviation fuel, with an option to buy up to an extra 4,000,000 gallons.
The blended SAF will be accessible through existing infrastructure, including the Colonial Pipeline.
Sara Bogdan, managing director of sustainability and environmental social governance at JetBlue, says, “This newly available SAF in our hometown is a key signal of the growing engagement by major fuel producers and the potential of SAF to meaningfully address aviation’s carbon emissions.”
The airline said it expects that, with ongoing corporate support and incentive programs, this first step will set the stage for a growing blended SAF market in one of the busiest airport systems in the world.
Blended SAF is compatible with existing aircraft and infrastructure. This neat, sustainable aviation fuel is derived from various feedstocks, including agricultural wastes and used cooking oils, and can reduce lifecycle GHG emissions by approximately 80% compared to conventional jet fuel.

Brad Hurwitz, senior vice president of supply and trading at World Fuel, added, “It takes support across the full supply chain to grow the blended SAF market and meet the aviation industry’s objectives.”
Bogdan added, “We’re asking companies who rely on the convenient and readily available flights to and from our New York area airports to help us show the demand and interest for more sustainable options.”
