DB Schenker in Sweden introduces a fully electric Scania R 450e lorry for long-distance deliveries. This e-truck will operate between Jönköping and Södertälje, covering a distance of approximately 300 kilometres as part of the E-Charge project.
This project, involving fourteen partners, aims to test the feasibility of electric long-haul transportation. The Scania R 450e is a 64-tonne electric lorry measuring 24 metres long. It will travel a route normally taking three hours to complete.
DB Schenker’s electric truck deployment replaces a diesel-powered vehicle for overnight operations between terminals, delivering goods to customers during the day.

The Scania R 450e is equipped with seven batteries totaling 728 kilowatt hours in capacity, enabling it to achieve a 300-kilometre range in Nordic weather conditions while carrying a 64-ton load.
This setup marks a significant achievement for Scania’s long-haul electric trucks, enabling the vehicle to cover the distance on a single charge.
High-power chargers provided by ABB E-mobile will be used to recharge at DB Schenker’s terminals.
“Our goal is to gain experience with electric heavy goods vehicles in regular long-distance operations,” said Anna Hagberg, Head of Network & Scheduled Services at DB Schenker.
“Electrification is crucial for our transition to carbon-neutral transport, especially since heavy goods vehicles are a major source of emissions,” Hagberg added.
