Consumers Energy announced the launch of a new initiative to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers at workplaces across Michigan.
The company anticipates that over 500 workplaces will implement EV charging stations by 2030, contributing to the growth of Michigan’s EV infrastructure.
Lauren Snyder, Consumers Energy’s Vice President of customer experience, said, “Consumers Energy is offering new approaches that will drive the growth of EVs. We’re breaking down barriers that will help get EVs into driveways at home, to fast public chargers and, now, places where we work.”
She added, “Employers who are looking to attract and keep good workers now have another tool that will allow them to charge at work.”
Under the new program, businesses installing two or more EV chargers for employee use can qualify for $7,500 rebates.
This initiative responds to the growing demand from businesses and survey findings, indicating that up to a third quarter of EV drivers want the ability to charge their vehicles at work.

Companies offering chargers to the public can qualify for even larger rebates, extending the benefits of workplace charging beyond employees to local communities.
Consumer Energy’s workplace charging initiative is part of a broader effort to make EV ownership more convenient and affordable in Michigan.
The company is also working on increasing public charging infrastructure, with plans to support over 1,500 public fast-charging locations by 2030.

Consumers Energy’s Clean Energy Plan also aims to support Michigan’s growing EV fleet with a carbon-neutral electric grid.
