InductEV, a leading US provider of wireless electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions, has joined the Zero Emissions Port Alliance (ZEPA), a strategic coalition focused on accelerating the decarbonization of global ports. Founded by APM Terminals and DP World in 2023, ZEPA seeks to make battery-electric container handling equipment more accessible and affordable.
The company unveiled its innovative wireless on-route electric vehicle (EV) charging technology, offering several advantages for fleet owners, port operators, and the environment. This solution boosts fleet efficiency, cuts CapEx costs, and reduces commercial fleets’ carbon footprint, offering both economic and environmental benefits.
How InductEV’s Wireless Charging System Works
The wireless charging system developed by InductEV operates using inductive charging pads. The system consists of an in-ground pad that activates when paired with a corresponding pad under the vehicle. Unlike traditional wired conductive chargers, InductEV’s system does not require additional real estate for installation, making it more space-efficient. The technology offers wireless charging options from 75 kW to 450 kW, providing scalability for various fleet needs.
The system’s hands-free operation improves driver safety by removing the need for physical connections during the charging process.
Shifting the Charging Paradigm
IInductEV’s wireless solution transforms fleet charging by eliminating time-consuming, energy-heavy overnight charging at depots with on-route charging. Instead, the technology allows for shorter, on-route charging sessions throughout the day. This shift optimizes clean energy use, eases power utility strain, and simplifies electrification for fleet operators and management. The move toward on-route charging sessions also supports the reduction of emissions, contributing to sustainability goals.
InductEV’s wireless charging solution is operational at APM Terminals in Port Elizabeth, New Jersey, with plans for a West Coast expansion. These deployments highlight the increasing demand for wireless charging in commercial fleets, especially in ports focused on efficiency and sustainability.

InductEV Joins ZEPA Coalition to Accelerate Electrification
InductEV reinforced its commitment to electric shipping solutions by joining the Zero Emission Port Automation (ZEPA) coalition. APM Terminals and DP World founded ZEPA in 2023 to speed up the adoption of zero-emission solutions at ports.
James Wroe, InductEV’s Managing Director for Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, said,  “We embrace the mission of ZEPA and share in its members’ vision for the electric future of the 940 container ports around the world. This industry is at a tipping point, and we’re excited to demonstrate the role wireless, opportunistic charging can play in this vital transformation.”
The ZEPA coalition seeks to electrify ports by scaling production, reducing costs, and promoting efficient infrastructure for electric CHE adoption. InductEV’s wireless charging technology aligns with ZEPA’s goals, positioning the company to drive transformation in global shipping and ports.
