United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the carbon data platform Sylvera have collaborated to increase access to carbon markets for African countries. Announced during the 38th African Union Summit, the partnership brings in the Carbon Data Access Partnership (CaDAP), an essential program that seeks to make African governments aware of detailed carbon project information.
Unlocking Data for Informed Decisions
CaDAP will give governments across the continent access to insights from Sylvera’s platform, covering more than 21,000 carbon projects globally. The initiative empowers African officials by offering detailed visibility into both existing and upcoming carbon projects within their borders. This data will inform policy choices, enhance carbon market readiness, and facilitate a conducive regulatory framework that lures investment.
Facilitating Climate Action and Economic Growth
Allister Furey, CEO of Sylvera, said, “Africa has a critical role to play in the journey to net zero with the continent at the forefront of driving meaningful climate action. Partnering with UNDP amplifies our mission by harnessing their excellent reach, expertise, and trusting relationships with governments, so we can deliver transformative carbon insights that will drive climate action and economic growth.
He added, “By using our platform and drawing on the world’s most trusted carbon data, governments will have the ability to fully assess existing projects, capitalize on future opportunities and, ultimately, ensure a fair and equitable net zero transition.”
The partnership will also work to address the challenges African carbon credits face in global markets. Despite Africa’s vast potential for high-quality carbon projects, limited access to clear, reliable data has often undervalued its credits. CaDAP will give African governments insights into project performance, boosting the credibility of carbon credits and attracting valuable investments.

The collaboration ensures that African carbon credits receive fair valuation, reflecting their true environmental and developmental benefits for the continent. CaDAP will provide governments with reliable data, helping create a fairer, more equitable carbon market for African nations.
