TotalEnergies, Quatra Sign 15-Year Deal for Used Cooking Oil to Boost Biofuel Production

TotalEnergies and Quatra, a European leader in the collection and recycling of used cooking oil, have entered into a significant 15-year agreement starting in 2026, aimed at securing a steady supply of 60,000 tons of used cooking oil annually.
The agreement will help feed TotalEnergies' biorefineries, contributing to the production of biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). This collaboration is a crucial step in TotalEnergies’ strategy to enhance its biofuel production capacity and accelerate its transition to more sustainable energy sources.
Collection and Processing of Used Cooking Oil
Under the agreement, Quatra will manage the collection of used cooking oil from restaurants, restaurant chains, and industrial sources across France and Europe. The collected oil will undergo filtering at Quatra’s processing sites before being shipped to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries. These facilities, located in France, will use the processed oil to manufacture biofuels, specifically for use in road transportation and aviation.
TotalEnergies' Biorefineries in France
Valérie Goff, Senior Vice President of Renewable Fuels & Chemicals at TotalEnergies, said, “I am delighted with this strategic agreement with Quatra that contributes to our aim to secure the feedstock we need to produce biofuels in our biorefineries.”
He added, “The development of biofuels is one of our Company’s strategic goals. By directly reducing the carbon intensity of the energy products used by our customers, we are actively working with them as part of our net zero approach, together with society.”

TotalEnergies is making significant strides in renewable fuel production by transforming its refineries into biorefineries. In France, two key sites are central to this effort. The La Mède Biorefinery, operational since 2019, produces 500,000 tons of biofuel annually and is currently the only facility in France producing HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) biodiesel.
In 2024, it also began supplying sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to airports in southern France. Meanwhile, the Grandpuits site is being converted into a zero-crude complex, with a dedicated biorefinery for SAF production set to launch in 2026.
Once operational, Grandpuits will produce 230,000 tons of SAF annually, supported by a feedstock partnership with SARIA, a leading European organic waste recycler.
