GE Vernova announced that it has received a major gas turbine order and a long-term service agreement for power plants in Saudi Arabia.
The order, secured from engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd., includes six 7HA.03 gas turbines and two 7E.03 gas turbines for the new Taiba 1 and Qassim 1 power plants in Saudi Arabia.
The equipment was booked in March by the company and was reflected in the company’s first-quarter earnings announcement.
This marks GE Vernova’s largest single order for the 7HA.03 gas turbine in the Middle East and Africa region.

The two power plants under the agreement align with Saudi Arabia’s goals to increase the share of renewable energy sources while ensuring a sustainable energy mix.
The two plants are designed with the flexibility to integrate carbon capture technologies in order to remit carbon emissions and support efforts to combat climate change.
In addition, 7HA.03 gas turbines can currently burn up to 50% by volume of hydrogen when blended with natural gas.

The turbines, set to be installed at the Taiba 1 and Qassim 1 facilities, are part of a strategic initiative to enhance Saudi Arabia’s energy infrastructure and support its transition towards a lower-carbon future.
Once installed and operational, the plants are expected to collectively generate up to 3.8 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, catering to the energy needs of approximately 1.2 million homes in the Kingdom.
In addition to the turbines, GE Vernova has entered into a 21-year service agreement with National Operations & Maintenance Company (NOMAC), a subsidiary of ACWA Power.
The agreement dictates that GE Vernova will provide comprehensive maintenance services and operational support for the power plants.
The two plants, powered by GE Vernova’s “most advanced gas turbines”, are reported to generate 3.8 gigawatts (GW) of electricity to the grid. The power generated will be sufficient to power nearly 1.2 million homes in Saudi Arabia.
