Nama Water and Procurement Company (NWAP), Oman’s sole provider of electricity, water and wastewater services, announced the list of prequalified applicants shortlisted for the development of the Ibri III Solar IPP.
The power project, which will have a capacity of 500 megawatts (MW), involves an investment of $402 million, as announced in the qualification tender released in January by NWAP.
Twelve companies responded to Nama Power’s request for qualification. The pool of applicants included local and international developers.
Nine companies are on the list of prequalified applicants. These companies have successfully completed the request for qualification round.

According to Nama’s release, this project’s procurement is part of the Sultanate of Oman’s government policy to broaden energy sources to meet the increasing demand for electricity.
The project’s execution will adhere to the “successful precedent IPP model established in the Sultanate of Oman”, the release mentions. It aims to award a contract to a private sector developer through fair and transparent competition.
This process seeks to provide advanced technology solutions to support Oman’s renewable energy and energy resource diversification goals.
At present, Oman’s sole off-taker of electricity from independent water plants is working on finalizing the Request for Proposals, which will soon be issued to the companies that have been shortlisted.
