The project, managed by Western Rivers Conservancy (WRC), benefits forest carbon stocks in North America and provides funding for the creation of the Blue Creek and Salmon Sanctuary.
This sanctuary is part of a bigger effort to conserve 47,000 acres of temperate rainforest and return the land to the Yurok Tribe.
Revenue from carbon credit sales has facilitated WRC’s acquisition of the Yurok’s ancestral lands, which have been donated back to the Tribe.
