OnPath Energy announced that its proposal for a wind farm extension that will provide electricity to over 80,000 homes has been approved.
Located near New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, the wind farm extension aims to enhance the facility’s efficiency in delivering affordable, low-carbon electricity to consumers.
After a thorough review, with community feedback, the project has been given the green signal.
The wind far, with a capacity of about 60 megawatts, will feature 10 turbines and is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 45,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to taking 22,000 petrol cars off the roads.

The new turbines, reaching heights of up to 251 meters and with blade diameters of 170 meters, will be the tallest onshore wind turbines ever approved in the UK.
The expansion boosts OnPath Energy’s Lethans wind farm. This expansion will enhance the existing 22-turbine setup, which boasts a capacity of approximately 132 megawatts.
Robin Winstanley, Sustainability and Environment Director at OnPath Energy said , “The additional turbines at the site will bring a wealth of environmental, social and economic benefits to the local community, creating a £9m community fund to be distributed to local initiatives around the area.”

The new investment is set to benefit the local economy significantly. Approximately ÂŁ178 million, or 60% of the total expenditure, is projected to be spent within 60 kilometres of the Lethans site.
This figure, derived from OnPath Energy’s three wind farms, reflects the economic impact assessed by independent consultants Biggar Economics.
Additionally, the Lethans expansion is expected to create around 400 construction jobs, with further employment opportunities arising indirectly through the broader supply chain.
