ReNew, an India-based renewable energy company, announced that it has signed a green attribute sale worth 437.6 megawatts (MW) with Microsoft.
According to the company announcement, the contract with Microsoft is anticipated to generate more than a million units of green electricity annually. This will aid Microsoft in its goal of becoming carbon-negative by 2030.
As per the agreement, ReNew will divert nearly $15 million of the revenue obtained from the contract to a community fund to back environmental justice initiatives.
The initiatives will tackle “concerns of communities disproportionately impacted by pollution and climate change”.
This diversion of funds will occur in partnership with ReNew Foundation, ReNew’s philanthropic arm.
ReNew Foundation works to create sustainable communities through climate action, focusing on women and youth whose efforts align with Microsoft’s Environmental Justice priorities.

Collectively amounting to approximately 2.2 GW, these agreements boost ReNew’s total portfolio to 15.6 GW. For FY24, the company accounted for around 10% of India’s total solar and wind energy production and successfully secured auctions for over 8 GW of renewable energy projects.
With Letters of Award for nearly 5.8 GW of new projects, ReNew is set to double its renewable energy assets to over 21 GW by FY29, reinforcing its role as a prominent force in India’s transition to clean energy.
