Uniper and Stegra signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply 6 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity to Stegra’s plant in Boden, Northern Sweden. This agreement covers five years, from 2027 to 2032, ensuring a stable electricity supply for Stegra’s green hydrogen and steel production.
Green Steel Production at Scale
Stegra’s Boden plant, launching in 2026, will produce 2.5 million tons of green steel annually. In addition, the facility will feature a 700 MW electrolysis plant to produce green hydrogen, reduce iron ore to green sponge iron, and supply the steel production process.
This project is vital to Stegra’s commitment to advancing sustainable industrial practices and reducing emissions in Europe’s heavy industry. As a result, the agreement with Uniper is essential for securing the energy needed for these operations.
