Iberdrola, through its subsidiary Avangrid announced it will begin building a new 120 MWac solar project in Morrow County, Oregon. Known as Tower Solar, this development will provide over 200 construction jobs and become Avangrid’s sixth Oregon-based solar facility while also being its 17th power generation development in the state. This represents another important project that confirms the commitment of Iberdrola, towards renewable energy across the United States, particularly further consolidating the group’s leading position in the Pacific Northwest region.
Power Purchase Agreement with PGE
Iberdrola has agreed on a power purchase agreement with Portland General Electric. Under the terms of this power purchase agreement, clean and renewable energy from the Tower Solar project will be provided. The power supplied will feed the Green Future Impact (GFI) program supported by Oregon’s large businesses and municipalities as they work towards achieving sustainability and carbon reduction through developing local clean energy.
Thus, the Tower Solar project will augment Oregon’s clean energy capability and more than 200 local jobs during construction. The facility would help Oregon fulfill the growing demand for renewable energy, especially from companies aiming at sustainability targets.
Powering Meta’s Operations
The new campus of the data center being developed by QTS will power Meta’s operations in support of its sustainability goals. At Tower Solar, the clean energy generated would sustain Meta’s operations, furthering the company’s commitment to 100 percent renewable energy. This partnership indeed sets a direction in which renewable energy will increasingly power the tech industry’s infrastructure.
