Carbon removal developer Deep Sky has entered into a 10 year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with UK based renewable energy company Low Carbon. This will help the operations of Deep Sky’s Alpha facility in Alberta, Canada.
Renewable Energy from Lethbridge 1 Solar Farm
Under the terms of the PPA, Low Carbon will supply 10 GWh of renewable energy annually. This energy will come from Low Carbon’s Lethbridge 1 solar farm project in Canada. Modern technology installed in the solar farm enables the panels to follow the path of the sun. This helps to make sure that the facility produces energy sufficient to meet 100% of the project’s needs.

Growing Interest in Direct Renewable Energy Contracts
This partnership follows Low Carbon’s earlier success with Lloyds Banking Group, where it delivered 50 GWh of renewable energy. Both deals indicate a rising interest among organizations in securing direct renewable energy contracts to support their climate goals.
Marco Verspuij, the Head of Power Management at Low Carbon, stated that the company was pleased to finalize the agreement with Deep Sky. He added that PPAs are expected to continue driving the renewable energy revolution in the coming years, helping organizations reduce emissions and decarbonize the economy.
A Challenging Yet Essential Step for Deep Sky
Damien Steel, CEO of Deep Sky, expressed pride in collaborating with Low Carbon to secure renewable energy for the Alpha project. He emphasised that securing renewable power for carbon dioxide removal projects is challenging. But, the firm is excited to have Low Carbon as their partner in Alberta.
