Nuada, a carbon capture company, announced the launch of a pilot plant in collaboration with Buzzi Unicem at its cement facility in Italy. This marks a significant step towards decarbonizing the cement industry.
The pilot project aims to demonstrate Nuada’s advanced technology tailored for cement manufacturing settings. The trials at Buzzi’s cement plant aim to expedite efforts in decarbonizing the cement industry.
The company has created an energy-efficient carbon capture solution by pairing advanced solid sorbents and a mature vacuum pressure swing absorption (VSPA) process.

The technology employed in the plant separates carbon emissions from industrial flue gases using heat, presenting a promising pathway for deploying carbon capture at scale by eliminating the challenges associated with such technology deployment.
“We are deploying the most energy-efficient carbon capture technology developed to date, a solution that redefines the decarbonisation landscape for hard-to-abate sectors like cement,” said Dr. Conor Hamill, Co-CEO of Nuada.
Dr. Jose Casaban, Co-CEO of Nuada, added, “This plant demonstrates the robustness, scalability, and game-changing benefits of our innovative capture system. Together with Buzzi, we are demonstrating the future of carbon capture in cement.”
To support Nuada’s efforts, Buzzi has committed to spreading awareness in the community about the efforts made to achieve Net-Zero by 2050.
