Malaysia’s state-run energy firm Petronas announced on Tuesday a partnership with Japanese power generation company JERA to assess the viability of the carbon capture and storage (CCS) process.
The study will focus on capturing and storing carbon dioxide emissions from JERA’s operations in Japan and explore cross-border transportation and storage possibilities in Malaysia.

Petronas stated that the collaboration aims to decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the Asia Pacific region, focusing on Malaysia and Japan.
Additionally, the company is contemplating new investments in the Atlantic Basin for its liquefied natural gas business, as mentioned by a senior executive in recent statements.
