Shell announced its plans to establish two new carbon capture storage (CCS) facilities- Polaris and Atlas – in Canada.
Shell Canada Products, a subsidiary of Shell, revealed the final investment decision (FID) regarding the Polaris carbon capture project.

The proposed project is going to be established at Shell Energy and Chemicals Park, Scotford, in Alberta, Canada.
The carbon capture facility is designed to capture nearly 650,000 tons of CO2 annually from the Shell-owned refinery and chemicals complex.
Apart from the FID for Polaris, Shell also announced the FID for Atlas. The Atlas Carbon Storage Hub is being built in collaboration with ATCO EnPower.

The first phase of Atlas will act as a permanent underground storage for CO2 captured by the Polaris project.
Both of these carbon capture facilities are expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
