Afreenergy Solar, a subsidiary of Independent Power Producer (IPP) Afreenergy, announced that it has inked an agreement with GreenYellow for the acquisition of a portfolio of solar assets in Senegal.
According to the terms of the agreement, Afreenergy Solar assumes complete ownership of GreenYellow’s shares in a portfolio of three operational rooftop solar power plants in Senegal.
The collection of projects represents a combined capacity of 2.6 MWp and is intended to fulfil the power requirements of prominent commercial and industrial (C&I) clients through self-consumption.
The overall carbon emissions saved by the portfolio will be substantial, resulting in a yearly reduction of over 2,000 tonnes of CO2 and a cumulative decrease of more than 26,000 tonnes over the contract period.

We want to support this trend through partnerships with local players to give as many people as possible access to clean, affordable energy.”
The acquisition of the power plants represents a new stage in the company’s growth. The company aims to structure and develop its functions to become one of the leading independent producers of renewable energy in Africa.
The acquisition serves as an addition to the company’s growing portfolio of more than 320 MW of solar, storage and hydro assets in different phases of development, construction, and operation in 12 African countries.
