Avantus, a leading renewable energy developer, has announced the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the Kitt Solar Project. This agreement represents a significant milestone for Avantus in Arizona, strengthening its position in the state’s growing solar and energy storage sector. The Kitt Solar Project in Pinal County, Arizona, will contribute 100 MWac/130 MWdc of solar power and 400 MWh of energy storage.
Avantus will lead the development of the Kitt Solar Project, beginning construction in 2025 and launching operations in 2026. The project will combine solar power and energy storage to help meet Arizona’s growing energy demand. The facility will provide energy to up to 32,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by around 200,000 metric tons annually.

Impact on Local Economy and Jobs
Avantus anticipates the Kitt Solar Project will deliver notable economic benefits to the local community. The project will create up to 400 jobs during construction, boosting the local workforce and economy. Moreover, it will generate tax revenues to fund public services such as schools, public safety, and infrastructure, positively impacting Eloy and nearby areas.
Derek Seaman, APS Director of Resource Acquisition, said, “Over the next several years, customer peak energy demand in Arizona is expected to grow significantly.”
He added, “The Kitt Solar Project will add to our growing solar power and energy storage portfolio and provide our customers with additional reliable, cost-competitive and clean electricity.”

A key feature of the Kitt Solar Project is its energy storage capacity, which will stabilize the grid and provide reliable power during peak demand. Arizona’s energy demand surged to record levels in 2024, with 113 consecutive days of temperatures over 100°F. The addition of 400 MWh of energy storage will bolster grid resilience, ensuring a consistent, cost-efficient, and clean electricity supply for residents.
