CRH, a provider of building materials, inaugurated a wind farm to provide renewable energy to its Medgidia Cement Plant in Romania. CRH Romania’s wind power will greatly enhance the plant’s energy sustainability.
This pioneering project represents the first wind farm in the nation dedicated solely to supporting a cement operation.
CRH Romania’s wind power project will meet the annual energy requirements of the Medgidia Plant significantly.
It simultaneously decreases the carbon emissions associated with its production processes.
Additionally, it contributes to Romania’s more significant shift towards clean energy.

Commitment to Sustainability

Advancing Clean Energy Goals
Further reinforcing its dedication, CRH actively invests in renewable energy to expand its range of low-carbon products and solutions.
CRH Romania’s wind power aims to reduce carbon emissions by 30% by 2030 by increasing renewable energy use and on-site electricity production. This goal highlights the significant impact of the initiative.

The wind farm project, which commenced in August 2023, is now fully operational.
It features five turbines with a total installed capacity of about 30 megawatts (MW) and an anticipated annual net electricity output of 80 gigawatt hours (GWh).
Consequently, this initiative is projected to decrease Romania’s energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 40,000 tons.
It marks a significant advancement in the nation’s environmental initiatives.
With this new development, CRH continues to pioneer sustainable practices in the construction materials sector, aligning with global movements towards cleaner energy solutions through projects like CRH Romania’s wind power.
