The DOE’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs announced the selectees for the Energy Auditor Training (EAT) Grant Program, which is part of the Biden-Harris Investing in America initiative.
This program will distribute nearly $28 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to 15 State Energy Offices and the American Samoa Territorial Energy Office (TEO), aiming to boost the green building workforce.
Moreover, the EAT program supports energy efficiency initiatives outlined in both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Specifically, the EAT Grant Program will train energy auditors to effectively reduce energy consumption and enhance efficiency.
This initiative aligns with the Biden-Harris goals of promoting sustainable energy use and fostering a healthier environment.

Jennifer M. Granholm, the US Secretary of Energy, said, “There are over two million American workers in the energy efficiency sector, and the demand for their skills continues to grow thanks to the Biden-Harris Investing in America agenda.”
She added, “Today’s funding will expand our clean energy workforce as we move swiftly to deploy energy-saving solutions to homes and consumers across the nation.”
EAT Program Objectives
The EAT program, as highlighted in the White House Climate Corps Fact Sheet, aims to assist states, territories, and the District of Columbia in investing in energy efficiency and electrification.
Additionally, the initiative aligns with the Justice40 Initiative, which directs 40% of federal climate investments to disadvantaged communities.
Consequently, the program is expected to benefit underserved areas by reducing energy burdens and creating quality jobs.
Commercial Sector Selections
In the commercial sector, the EAT program will support various initiatives, including $1.99 million for the ‘Southeast Commercial Energy Auditor Collaborative Partnership.’
The Hawai’i State Energy Office is launching the ‘HEAT Program’ with $900,000 to boost energy auditor careers.
