Supporting Renewables and Enhancing ERCOT Grid Resiliency
The Cross Trails BESS project, operated by Energy Vault, will provide essential energy services.
This initiative will enhance renewable energy use and improve grid resilience in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) area.
The Gridmatic agreement will start in Q2 2025, establishing a strong foundation for energy storage in a key energy market.
Energy Vault is expanding energy storage in the US, Europe, and Australia to improve efficiency and profitability.
This partnership includes Gridmatic’s QSE services and trading to boost energy storage value.
The ERCOT project aligns with Energy Vault’s commitment to long-term investments in energy storage, utilizing its recent financing partnership with Jefferies to back financially sustainable projects.
Energy Vault aims to create predictable and recurring revenue streams while enhancing capital returns as it expands in the growing global energy storage sector by building, owning, and managing energy systems.
Robert Piconi, Chairman and CEO of Energy Vault. “Owning energy storage infrastructure plays a critical role in our commitment to deliver long-term, sustainable shareholder value while allowing the company to more profitably and efficiently capitalise on the growing global demand for energy storage solutions.”

The partnership with Gridmatic represents the first physically settled revenue floor contract for a BESS within ERCOT, bolstered by Gridmatic’s Energy Storage Fund and AI-enhanced energy forecasting.
The collaboration also encompasses Gridmatic’s Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) services and day-ahead trading capabilities, which will maximize the value of the energy storage asset.
The BESS will incorporate Energy Vault’s proprietary X-Vault platform, the B-VAULT™ product certified under UL9540 standards, and the VaultOS Energy Management System, which facilitates optimal control and management of battery storage operations.
The system is designed with flexible architecture that accommodates both AC- and DC-coupled configurations, catering to varied project specifications as well as different battery or inverter suppliers.
With over 2 GWh in B-VAULT projects already deployed or in construction, Energy Vault continues to make strides in the energy storage industry.
Gridmatic’s expertise in managing 300 MW of battery storage across ERCOT and CAISO
markets further enhances this partnership, positioning the Cross Trails BESS project as a significant contributor to the improvement of Texas’s energy resilience and sustainability objectives.
