Google has revealed that it has signed a 15 year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). The agreement entails the acquisition of 250MW of renewable wind energy. The energy purchased by Google will be sourced from the Zeevonk project.
The acquisition is part of Google’s broader strategy to remit carbon emissions and realize its goal of achieving operations on 24/7 carbon free energy by 2030.
The Zeevonk Project
Located 62 kilometres off the Dutch coast, Zeevonk is an offshore wind, floating solar, and green hydrogen production facility. CIP and Vattenfall worked on the project together. The developed project is a joint venture between the two organisations.
Moreover, the project will include green hydrogen manufacturing facilities apart from the offshore wind farms. And a 50MW floating solar farm.

A huge electrolyzer at the Port of Rotterdam will convert the generated renewable energy into green hydrogen. The process will speed up the energy transition in the Netherlands. This boost will help to facilitate energy storage and the decarbonization of heavy industries.
CIP’s Role in Advancing Renewable Energy Solutions
CIP’s Energy Transition Fund I, the largest green hydrogen fund globally, is central to the success of the Zeevonk project. A CIP partner explained that the partnership with Google represents a critical milestone and highlights the vast potential of offshore wind and green hydrogen.
He emphasized that this collaboration showcases the significant opportunities in renewable energy as both sectors continue to grow.
Supporting Google’s Goal
This PPA fuels the search giant’s dedication to sustainability and its goal of operating on 24/7 carbon-free energy by the decade’s end. The project will supply energy to support Google’s operations and provide them for renewable hydrogen production.
A Boost for Local Economies and Global Decarbonization Efforts
The Zeevonk project will support local economic growth in the Netherlands, provide jobs, and clean energy. The collaboration will also be supporting wider global decarbonization efforts, setting an example for other companies and industries to follow.
Google is not only moving forward with its own sustainability goals through this agreement or partnership. It is also helping lead the way toward more sustainable future.
